The Faust System

WWW Hosting Personified

Name: faust.elib.com Memory: 256 Mb / 7 ns SDRAM Type: A/Open PII/350 PCL Disks: 5 SCSI / 28.2 Gb capacity O/S: FreeBSD 3.1 Unix Tape: 30 Gb SCSI Archive

Named for a character in one of Goethe's dramas, "Faust" is the machine we use to serve-up those HTML pages: it's our WWW server. We are using Apache v1.2 to serve the Web docs, with links to mSQL, Progress95, and Informix v4.2 for our Relational Database accesses. Databases are local to Faust, or on our File Server system - Goethe.

Additionally, it serves as the secondary Radius authentication server. Like the majority of Internet Service Providers around the world (in Michigan there's Merit, Msen, and RustNet to name a few), C4 Systems is using Radius authentication techniques to verify it's Internet users. Faust is in charge of most of the user logging files for our subscribers.
